D5683 Loco Battery
D5683 went into service on 19th January 1961 at the Darnall shed, Sheffield. It has worked at a large number of depots during its career including Finsbury Park, March, Stratford, Bescot, Crewe and Immingham. It's longest spell was at March from 1976 until 1987 during which time it worked passenger services between Liverpool Street & Kings Lynn and cross country routes from Great Yarmouth, Norwich, Ipswich and Harwich to the Midlands. It also spent about six months working from

Peterborough including to Kings Cross, Bury St Edmunds & Brandon. It was withdrawn on 11th January 1999 and stored at Toton depot, Nottingham. It was then used to test the new paint shop built at Toton and so carries the latest English, Welsh & Scottish Railway's red and yellow livery. It was delivered to the Colne Valley Railway on 19th February 2000 and has been restored to working order with a new set of starting batteries from Pb Batteries in 2008.
Thumper Loco Battery
These diesel electric multiple units (DEMU) were once common on many commuter lines and nicknamed "Thumpers" due to the characteristic noise they produce. "Thumper" 205205 has been brought back to the South East from its former home on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, so it can be restored and once again carry passengers.
"Thumper" 205205 is the only unit with a corridor connection being experimentally converted and 'modernised'. Because of this it was saved for preservation, and over the coming months the volunteer team at EOR will be carefully restoring the unit, complete with its "commuter" style interior.

Unit 1111 was new with 'paint date' 20-9-57 and entered service as a 2H unit formed 60110 + 60810 based at Eastleigh Diesel Depot for 'Hampshire Diesel Scheme'. From 1979 to 2004 “Thumper” worked several stations and lines in and out of the south of London before being sold to NYMR and hauled to Darlington 21-3-05 and on to Grosmont the next day. Not used by NYMR the unit was resold and moved to Ongar (by road) 12-11-09. As part of the ongoing restoration the starter batteries were replace with a complete new set from Pb Batteries in early 2010.
