Electric car batteries have come a long way. Now the new Lithium-ion electric car batteries can propel a car for 220 miles before needing recharging, making it possible for electric cars to be used for city driving of short distances and charged at night right from the owners’ own homes. What is really impressive about these 220 miles is that these batteries will propel the car the same distance as an average tank full of petrol and run all the electric systems before needing to be recharged.

However, instead of resting on their laurels, electric car battery manufacturers all over the world are still working to increase the function of electric car batteries.

• New technology is showing promise in not only increasing the distance these cars can run on a fully charged battery, but are also working to speed up charge time so that the electric car batteries of the future will take little longer than it takes to fill a standard petrol tank.
• There have been discussions and plans to include electric car battery charge stations in petrol stations and even motels and hotels so that it may soon be possible to use the electric car for long distance as well as local driving.
